I’ve been using my GoPro already a couple of times, especially for my ski holidays. In the beginning I’ve been testing a lot of things that I want to share with everybody to help them making better hero movies!
The model I’m using is the GoPro 3 Silver. Video resolution set on 720p with 60FPS, the quality is more than enough and the 60 fps makes it good for shooting sport movies (I’ve been using it mostly for skiing). A memory card of 32 GB is inserted in the GoPro, this way I can shoot movies a whole week (ski vacation) without moving movies to an external disk.
I’ve tested some accessoires to shoot movies, my favourite stays the regular helmet front mount. I’m mostly making shots of my friends in action, it’s very easy to follow them and the movie is very steady (make sure you are close enough otherwise you have to zoom a lot while editing your movies).
I expected a lot of the GoPro Chesty, but for shooting other persons, it’s not that easy. It shakes a lot and on a snowboard you can’t follow someone easily. The GoPro pole (stick) brings a solution for this, my snowboarding friends can make nice shots with it. Also for capturing yourself, the pool makes it easy in the selfie modus.
A wireless charger is also needed, I connect this when lunching so the GoPro is charged for the afternoon. Otherwise my GoPro won’t be usable anymore around 3 or 4 p.m. (depending on the use off course).
My last tip is shooting short movies, power on the GoPro before a nice descent. When you’re in action, just push the start/stop button, making short shots. In the elevator or on boring parts, power off the GoPro to save the battery.
Other tips will follow when I have more experience!
